A well-meaning, high school math teacher in one of the schools I taught had office hours where he would wait for students to appear and when they did show up, he would explain the requested math problem. If the student didnít get it, this teacher would simply raise his voice and scare at least me and for sure the student! Tone of voice is critical in expecting the listener to absorb whatís being communicated. Speaking in a high-pitched, sing-song voice can capture the attention of pets and babies more effectively than normal adult speech. Using a gentle and affectionate tone helps convey warmth, love, and tenderness. It helps build an emotional connection between the speaker and the pet or baby, making them feel safe and loved. And years ago while living in Europe, tourists would ask questions of the locals who didn't understand English so the tourists would just ask the question again only louder. I used to think, these local people are not deaf, they just did not understand the words being said.
